NHN WAPLAT recently announced that they have entered into a four-way partnership on the 9th with the Jeongseon County Office, the Kangwon Land Social Contribution Foundation, and Woori Resident Co., Ltd. for the 'WAPLAT AI Living Assistant Support Project.' This collaboration aims to build a smart care model powered by AI, lighten the heavy load on human caregivers, and bolster the safety and emotional well-being of elderly citizens living alone.

Under the agreement, the four entities will deploy the 'WAPLAT AI Living Assistant' service to seniors over 65 in Jeongseon County from April through December. It is an all-in-one smartphone solution designed to manage safety, health, and emotional stability. Key features include 24-hour monitoring with 112 emergency dispatch, cardiovascular and stress metrics approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, professional health consultations, and medication reminders. Most notably, the platform uses a generative large language model to create an 'AI Human'—a persona modelled after a woman in her 50s—which specializes in casual, empathetic conversation and routine health check-ups. Jeongseon County is the first local government in Korea to adopt this technology.

As for the division of labour, the Jeongseon County Office is taking the helm in planning and operational management, handling recipient selection and policy integration. The Kangwon Land Social Contribution Foundation and Woori Resident Co., Ltd. are picking up the tab for the service fees and assisting with monitoring. Meanwhile, WAPLAT is responsible for the heavy lifting: providing the platform, system maintenance, and continuous feature upgrades.

Choi Seung-jun, the County Governor of Jeongseon, remarked that this project represents a fresh approach to the rising demand for elderly care, aiming to build a more robust safety net through technology. Hwang Sun-young, CEO of WAPLAT, added that their AI Human is designed to handle the repetitive, mundane tasks of caregiving, allowing human staff to focus on more complex needs. With the 'Neul-pyeonhan AI Care' project scheduled to launch in Gyeonggi-do this July, WAPLAT is rapidly expanding. Having already signed agreements with 24 local governments, they are on track to reach 40 municipalities across the country by the end of this year.
