A rather eccentric new Soulslike has been announced, featuring a medieval rabbit as its unlikely protagonist.

French solo developer Vercors Studio pulled back the curtain on its upcoming action title, 'Johan', on the 19th, dropping a trailer and opening its Steam page. The premise? A rabbit ripped straight from the pages of medieval literature, standing tall against a ruthless legion of knights hell-bent on destroying nature. There is a certain B-movie charm here, watching a cute, cartoonish bunny swing a massive blade against towering human foes and woodland creatures like hedgehogs.

The real meat of the game lies in its finely tuned combat mechanics. It leans heavily into a parry system that will feel intimately familiar to anyone who has spent time with Sekiro; nail the timing, and you’ll leave your enemy wide open for a devastating finishing blow. The fundamentals are solid, too—you can backstab unsuspecting foes or rain down justice from above with swift, lethal executions.

Then there is the rather bizarre summoning system. By scouring the world for scattered manuscript pages, you can call upon grotesque entities straight out of medieval folklore. Whether it is a colossal snail or a man whose face is melded into his torso, each summon brings a unique flavor to the fray—some bash enemies into oblivion, while others offer rapid-fire mobility. Finding the right combo to suit your playstyle is the name of the game here.

When you are not busy fighting, you will be putting the rabbit’s natural agility to the test. With double jumps and a snappy dash, traversing the map feels fluid. You can even use vines as a makeshift grappling hook to reach towering heights or uncover hidden nooks and crannies tucked away in the environment.

Johan is set for a PC release, though we are still waiting on a firm launch date. Support for the Korean language has yet to be confirmed.
