To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the classic action title Castlevania, the mobile version is being given away for free.

On the 25th, Konami announced that it is distributing the mobile version of the original Castlevania for free to mark the 40th anniversary of the franchise. Castlevania is widely regarded as a defining pillar that carved out its own unique space within the side-scrolling action-adventure genre.

Castlevania first debuted in 1986 for the Nintendo Famicom Disk System as a gothic horror action game. It is the title that laid the foundation for the entire Castlevania series, inspiring countless follow-ups and spin-offs over the years. Konami decided to distribute the original Castlevania for free as a token of appreciation to the players who have supported the series up to this day.

Available for download until 23:59 on October 24, this mobile version of Castlevania is a direct port of the Nintendo Famicom ROM cartridge edition. The game can be acquired through the Apple App Store and Google Play, with downloads available in South Korea as well. Players who download the game within the specified timeframe will be able to continue enjoying it indefinitely without any additional costs.

Meanwhile, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Castlevania, Konami is holding special discounts on related titles in the series and will sequentially release various content, including a commemorative video.

Through the 40th anniversary video released alongside the announcement, Konami stated, "We are preparing various future developments for the series, so please look forward to them."
