Once Human has launched its largest-ever free marine expansion, 'Forbidden Isle', on the 22nd. 'Forbidden Isle' is available to play for free across PC, mobile, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.

The newly unveiled expansion, 'Forbidden Isle', is set against a vast marine backdrop. Players leave the land behind to explore a 'living sea' and kick off a journey for survival. They must master a deeply freeform ship-building system and fight tooth and nail to survive in an environment that spans the open ocean, islands, and the seabed. Specifically, the ocean in this region is an ancient entity known as the 'Lord of the Tides', where the sea itself becomes a living organism threatening those who cross the region. Scattered across the cursed waters are lonely lighthouses tracking the player's wake, while ghost ships drift aimlessly through the darkness.

Players can learn basic navigation skills in the starting plain area. They must master survival skills across four hazardous zones they will encounter at sea. Survival techniques tailored to unique regional environments are required, including the visibility-obscuring 'Strange Fog', the sanity-shattering 'Black Tsunami', 'Acid Rain' which corrodes equipment and accelerates crop growth, and 'Heavenly Fire' which explodes like a volcano.

In addition, colossal bio-mechanical lighthouses known as 'Towers of Calamity' guard each region at sea, and players can bring down these structures using ships and personal firearms. Success unlocks higher-tier crafting stages to progress to the next area, and starting from stage 2, the 'Tower of Calamity' mutates into the deadlier 'Abyssal Lighthouse', offering a steep difficulty spike. Five unique ghost ships also patrol the sea fog, and attacking them yields rare blueprints and modules.

Cooperation among all players on the server is essential to encounter the endgame content, the 'Lord of the Tides'. This content runs in a two-stage format over a 21-day cycle. In the first stage, players must conquer the five regions and the 'Towers of Calamity' as quickly as possible, allowing them to experience the second stage—featuring random 'Corrupted Zones' and the boss 'Ruined Owl'—all the sooner.

The cleansed status of anomalies within the server is displayed via server-shared progress, and completing all progress awakens the final boss, the 'Lord of the Tides'. The 'Lord of the Tides' is a 4-player co-op raid activity completed by piercing through the giant monster's shell and entering its interior to strike its heart.

Diverse modular warship designs and fleet co-op play are also core elements of the new expansion. Players can advance the maritime tech tree to upgrade propulsion power and equip various weapons like cannons and harpoons. It is also possible to install automatic fishing nets, smelters, generators, and workbenches on the deck to turn the ship itself into a mobile fortress for survival. This update also introduces 'Duet', the first environmental manipulation Deviant that alters weather and wind through music, which can be captured.

Alongside the expansion launch, Once Human has been selected as the first participating game for 'Green Game Jam 2027', an annual global environmental campaign under the UN Environment Programme-supported 'Playing for the Planet' alliance. 'Green Game Jam' runs various programs delivering environmental messages within game content. As its first event, Once Human will run a community environmental campaign titled 'Mr. Wish's Drifting Bottle', linked with the popular Deviant 'Mr. Wish', running until November 20. Event participants will receive in-game rewards such as 'Cosmetic Charity Chests', and beloved stories will be featured across the community.
