Independent game developer The Kingdom announced on the 27th that it is bringing the four-player cooperative game RATATA to PC via Steam. Set in a chaotic 1980s criminal animal underworld, the game accommodates up to four players in a shared cooperative experience.

RATATA casts players as an animal gang heavily in debt to a mafia toad boss, tasked with surviving a series of questionable missions. The toad boss barks vague directives across town, leaving the gang to figure out what 'bring me that thing' actually means while arguing over logistics.

Players assemble a crew of animals with varying sizes, strengths, speeds, and abilities, picking the right truck for heists, deliveries, and utterly ridiculous errands. The physics engine complicates every single object hoisted into a truck, demanding precision so that friends and vehicles survive the ordeal. Most of the spoils go straight to the boss, leaving crumbs to recruit new members, upgrade trucks, and improve the hideout.

Key features include gang recruitment and progression, hideout upgrades, evading guards, dodging traps, and pulling off dangerous errands. The joy comes from bickering with mates over vague boss orders and awkward cargo loading. If a mission goes sideways, players can break jailed mates out of slammer cells, customize characters in a slick 1980s style, and tackle the chaos either solo or in online co-op with up to four players.
