On the 25th, 'The King of Fighters AFK' (hereinafter KOF AFK) released a developer note teasing a massive October update. They are aiming to stir up excitement with expanded progression systems, new PvP content, and the arrival of a new fighter, 'Mai Shiranui'.

First off, a new stage, 'Path of the Challenger', kicks off its first 'Darkness' episode on September 30. Following this, the developer intends to roll out episodes covering themes like Beasts, Disaster, Destruction, Ruin, and Phantoms. Meanwhile, the 'Gold Rush' and 'Void Sanctuary' will see their caps pushed to 500 stages, while the 'Laboratory of Contradiction' hits 300. To ensure players can push their fighters to the absolute limit, the growth cap is being bumped to level 80, the Supporters Center to level 500, and the Pet Hotel to level 1,000. Challenge Dungeons are also expanding: Infinity Challenge adds 100 floors, Arcade Challenge gains 'Area 3', and High Score Challenge introduces 4 additional tiers.

There is also a fresh progression system on the horizon. The new 'Console' system allows players to activate unique skills, unleashing flashy area-of-effect moves that could turn the tide of battle. By equipping 'Upgrade Parts', players can buff specific account stats, and by leveling up the Console itself, the entire account grows stronger. Keep an eye out for future updates, which promise new 'Skill Packs' to unlock even more Console abilities.

Perhaps most excitingly, the long-awaited 'Club Battle BETA' is making its debut. This seasonal, server-agnostic league aims to crown the strongest club; any club at level 2 or higher with at least 25 members is automatically entered. The format pits members against one another in a 1v1 setup across three lanes, with both individual and club rewards on the line for the victors.

The developer also dangled a carrot for the community by revealing the new fighter: 'Mai Shiranui' arrives as a pick-up character on October 2. The developer noted that they surveyed players across various channels to see who they wanted next, and Mai Shiranui came out on top. More fighters, supporters, and pets are promised to follow in due course.
