The Culture and Arts Policy Advisory Committee, a body reporting directly to the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is set to launch on November 10th.

The committee covers a vast array of sectors under the Ministry's direct purview, including literature, theatre and musicals, classical music, traditional Korean music, dance, visual arts, pop music, film and video, games, webtoons, animation, and publishing.

While the Popular Culture Exchange Committee—which kicked off on October 1st—is heavily weighted towards industry leaders, this new advisory group brings a more diverse mix of creators, academics, industry professionals, and critics to the table.

A total of 90 members have been appointed, selected for their deep-seated insight and field expertise. The committee will be chaired by novelist Eun Hee-kyung, known for works such as 'Bird Gift' and 'The Box of the Wife'.

The gaming contingent features KeSPA Chairman Kim Young-man, LoadComplete CEO Bae Soo-jung, Wonder Potion CEO Yoo Seung-hyun, Anyang University Professor Lee Seung-hoon, NC AI CBO Lim Soo-jin, Korea Association of Game Industry Chairman Cho Young-ki, Korea Mobile Game Association Chairman Hwang Sung-ik, and Kookmin University Professor Hwang Seung-heum.

Operating through frequent sub-committee meetings, the group will tackle essential tasks: strengthening the foundation for creative artists, bolstering the cultural and creative industry ecosystem, and drafting support schemes for young artists.

Minister Yu In-chon stated, "The cultural and creative industry, now explicitly recognized in the APEC Gyeongju Declaration, cannot thrive without a rock-solid foundation," adding, "I expect this committee, alongside the Popular Culture Exchange Committee, to serve as a vital dual-platform for policy dialogue."
