The horror game 'The Mortuary Assistant' is set to hit US cinemas this February. Ahead of the premiere, a new trailer has been released, offering a glimpse into the film's atmosphere.

Released in August 2022, 'The Mortuary Assistant' is a horror simulation game that puts you in the shoes of Rebecca Owens, an apprentice mortician at River Fields Mortuary. You are tasked with spending the night alone, performing embalming duties on bodies that are not exactly behaving as corpses should. Your job involves uncovering demonic entities through occult rituals and gathering clues to banish them. It is a loop of terror that earned a positive reception at launch for its grimly realistic take on the embalming process blended with classic exorcism tropes.

The film aims to expand the game’s lore, diving deeper into the history of these demonic presences. While the game prioritized the hands-on, visceral experience of the trade, the adaptation looks set to lean heavily into narrative storytelling. The real question for us, of course, is how faithfully those nerve-shredding mechanics will translate to the silver screen.

Brian Clarke, founder of DarkStone Digital and a key figure in the production, took to the game’s Steam page to share his thoughts. He noted, "This project is directed by Jeremiah Kipp, the mind behind 'Slapface', and we’ve become quite close during this process. I’m truly grateful to the cast and crew for their dedication. I was lucky enough to be on set throughout production, and collaborating with such brilliant people was a highlight."

The 'The Mortuary Assistant' film hits US theatres on February 13th, followed by a streaming release on the horror-focused platform 'Shudder' on March 27th. Information regarding a domestic release in Korea is currently unconfirmed.
