Adventurers who have been obsessively studying Palanus have unearthed some unconventional setups that prove our top-tier players certainly have a keen eye. Broadening our horizons with Palanus reveals 'Rosie and Aragon'

Usually, when a new hero drops, the meta simply shifts by swapping out one underwhelming unit from existing staples—take the previous 'Branz & Bransel' debut as a prime example, where they slotted into 'Trude/Kyle' offense decks or Freya hybrid setups. Palanus, however, has bucked this trend entirely. She has dragged the likes of Rosie and Aragon out of the Arena wilderness and into a surprisingly effective new niche.

In the early days of Palanus research, the trend was to shoehorn her into the dominant Freya-centric compositions, mixing in Support and Defense heroes to mimic standard tank builds. But then, players began eyeing Aragon—a hero usually reserved for Guild Wars—and after some promising field reports, the idea caught fire like wildfire. The result is the 'Rosie/Aragon' status effect deck, replacing the usual suspects like Alice and Rudy.

Thanks to this, Rosie has finally made a comeback on the charts, hitting 20.7% and pipping her support rival Alice to the post. Aragon has also surged to 17.3%, sitting right behind Rudy and threatening the long-standing dominance of the arena's premier tank. Meanwhile, Sun Wukong, the primary damage dealer in this setup, has seen a 20% point spike, rocketing to a 79.7% pick rate, while Gelidus has also climbed 20.3% to secure 7th place.

The return of the 'Balanced Formation' era

The arrival of Palanus and these new-fangled strategies have slammed the brakes on the standard formation's momentum. It dipped by 0.7% points this week, while the Balanced Formation ticked up by 6% points. It seems players banking on Sun Wukong and Palanus as their main damage dealers are opting for this structure, as the Attack and Protection formations remain quite difficult to justify in the current meta.

With the rise of Palanus-led tank decks, the pet meta has become a bit of a scramble. Trying to counter healing with 'Yu' is a fool's errand given the sheer volume of health regeneration available, yet finding room for 'Ace' is equally difficult. Since the effectiveness of these pets fluctuates wildly depending on who you're facing, players are currently cycling between 'Yu, Yeonhee, and Lu' on the fly. Consequently, pick rates are spread quite thin.

It has been a while since our last Focus Pick. This week, we are highlighting the 'End' adventurer from Arena Server 3, who achieved the best results with the Rosie/Aragon build. While we can’t say they were the absolute first to discover it, they certainly seem to have refined the setup to perfection. The core units—Rosie, Aragon, and Gelidus—hold the front line, while Palanus and Sun Wukong dish out the heavy firepower.

The reason this unique build exists is that Palanus’s effectiveness hinges on specific Defense and Support hero conditions. As mentioned earlier, the initial attempts paired her with Rudy and Alice—typical 'turtling' heroes that unfortunately lacked the necessary offensive punch. Realizing this, top players looked for more aggressive alternatives, eventually settling on this status-effect-heavy composition.

The beauty here lies in the sheer volume of disruptive status effects. Sun Wukong’s petrification, Rosie’s instant death, Gelidus’s freeze, and Aragon’s stun all serve to lock down the opposition. Furthermore, their passive skills create a synergy that boosts your own effect success rates while debuffing the enemy. Palanus, Gelidus, and Sun Wukong provide continuous healing for the team, and Rosie’s ability to resurrect and apply 'Authority' makes this team a nightmare in long, drawn-out battles. It even holds its own against pure tank decks by landing clutch instant-death effects.

So, how have the top Total War players been faring amidst this meta shift? As we hit the mid-round mark, 'BitJonghwan' has reclaimed the top spot. Looking at the changes compared to their previous lineup, the old Sun Wukong tank build has been adjusted: Platon has been swapped out for the newcomer, Palanus.

At 6-transcendence, Palanus’s two active skills guarantee a 100% weak point attack, offering far more explosive firepower than Platon—making for a much more exhilarating combat experience. Paired with Sun Wukong in a Balanced Formation, the damage potential is through the roof. The front line is rounded out by Alice, Lina, and Rudy to ensure the team can go the distance.
