It appears the devs have finally handed us a counter to Lu Bu, who had been single-handedly tearing through the balance of power. With Radgrid acting as a massive roadblock, Lu Bu's pick rate has cratered, and even those bottom-tier magic heroes are starting to stir. The real winners here, however, are the Universal type heroes. Let’s dive into the stats and see how the arena is evolving.

Radgrid claims the #1 pick rate spot upon release

As soon as the Lunar New Year break ended, Radgrid took the throne. Lu Bu, who previously held court, had no choice but to step aside. Radgrid hit a 60% pick rate immediately, while Lu Bu saw his presence drop by 37 percentage points. The usual offensive suspects like Branz & Branzel, Kyle, and Kagura also felt the heat, though they managed to hold onto the 40% range, keeping them relevant for now.

The true beneficiaries of the Radgrid era are the Universal heroes. Her kit provides significant protection to Universal heroes in the backline, boosting their survivability immensely. Furthermore, it synergizes perfectly with the defensive and support hero requirements for Palanus's bonus effects. Effectively, this has raised both the flexibility and the performance ceiling for defensive decks, leading to a massive spike in picks for Sun Wukong, Ghelidus, and Palanus.

Elysia and Ace are also Universal, but they function more as general-purpose picks. Elysia is your go-to for debuff management, while Ace is essential for reducing enemy healing. Consequently, they enjoy slightly higher pick rates than other Universal heroes regardless of whether you're running a defensive or offensive setup.

Pet 'Yu' as the answer to mirror matches

With the arena meta flipped on its head, formation and pet preferences have naturally followed suit. The standard and balanced formations favored by offensive decks have plummeted by 38.7% and 15.3% respectively, while the Attack formation has surged by 59 percentage points—a direct result of slotting Radgrid in the front to babysit the Universal backline.

In the same vein, the offensive pet 'Irin' dropped by 48 percentage points, while defensive pets like Lu, Karam, and Pike are on the rise. The top spot, however, belongs to 'Yu'. While technically an offensive pet, players are leveraging her to apply healing reduction debuffs to the enemy. Expect her pick rate to climb as defensive decks prepare for the inevitable mirror matches.

Radgrid single-handedly boosts survivability

The Radgrid defensive deck is our Best Pick of the Week for putting the brakes on the Lu Bu offensive meta. By placing Radgrid at the front of an Attack formation, you create a formidable shield for your party. Just be warned: her protection explicitly targets Universal heroes, so you'll need to be clever if you want to mix in other types.

The only downside? Palanus. To get the most out of her signature mark mechanic, you really need a Support hero, but that hero won't receive Radgrid’s protection. It’s a classic trade-off: survival or synergy? Most top-tier players are currently opting to ignore the Palanus synergy in favor of raw hero stats.

Total War Pick of the Week

11th Round Joint #1 'Coldplay'

Total War compositions are becoming increasingly diverse as the meta shifts. Once past the 11th round, the top-ranked players are finally rolling out their Legendary-tier setups. In this round, 13 players hit the Legendary rank simultaneously. We took a look at the setup from adventurer 'Coldplay', who opted to split their defensive forces across two teams.

Team 1 is spearheaded by Radgrid, backed by Spike, Trude, Sun Wukong, and Emilia—a textbook Universal party. While adding Palanus or Ace would pump up the raw power, they’ve been reserved for other teams to maximize overall win rates. Spike and Trude serve as solid, if not perfect, alternatives here.

Palanus is currently holding down the fort in a classic defensive setup alongside Rudy and Rook. With healing duties handled by Alice and Lina, and the recently reworked Rook in the backline, Palanus is essentially acting as a one-woman show for party utility and damage.

Adventurer 'Geum-dong' and the Instant Death deck

The new Real-time Arena content is currently in its pre-season. This new column, Real-time Arena Highlights, analyzes the most impressive matches from our top-tier players. We’ll be peering into their 3-team setups and skill rotations based on in-game replays—take these notes and try them out yourself.

Our first feature is on the long-standing Champion #1, 'Geum-dong' from the Cheol-geo guild. His replay reveals a diverse trio: a defensive deck, an offensive deck, and an instant-death deck. What sets him apart is his specific use of Platon in the defensive deck, Colt in the offensive, and Elysia in the instant-death deck. We focused on the latter, which he used against fellow guild member 'Wook-carry's' defensive setup.

The key to the instant-death deck is straightforward: spam AoE instant-death skills, then trigger Aquila’s 'Cruel Storm' to accelerate the death timer. The real finesse lies in Kris's speed and Elysia’s debuff cleansing.

Real-time Arena rewards manual skill control, and the instant-death deck is a perfect candidate for it. You can build it with high defensive stats to survive, use Elysia to purge status ailments on demand, and even use Rosie to resurrect fallen allies at the perfect moment. It’s a top-tier pick for a main party.

Seven Knights Re:BIRTH User Poll
