Krafton has signaled that its deep-sea exploration title, Subnautica 2, is currently tracking for an early access launch this coming May.

In a chat with Gamemeca, a Krafton representative noted that the team has made 'meaningful progress' following a milestone review earlier this month, confirming they are 'pushing ahead with development, keeping a May early access release in our sights.'

For those unacquainted, Subnautica 2 is a survival-adventure game that plunges you into the depths of a mysterious alien ocean, teeming with peculiar flora and fauna. Your time will be spent crafting essential gear, establishing sub-aquatic bases, and unravelling the secrets hidden within the deep.

The sequel promises a richer ecosystem, boasting towering underwater cliffs and sprawling coral reefs. More importantly, it brings official co-op multiplayer support for up to four players. The devs have been teasing features like base building, a new vehicle dubbed the 'Tadpole', and fresh Leviathans via their developer videos, which you can check out at the link above.

On a rather more legal note, Krafton is currently entangled in litigation with former Subnautica 2 developers at the Delaware Court of Chancery.
