Borderlands 4 launched its inaugural story expansion, 'Mad Ellie and the Cursed Vault', on the 27th, vaulting the title to 6th place on the global Steam charts. However, the reception has been lukewarm, with the DLC currently sitting at 'Mixed' reviews due to a perceived lack of content relative to its price tag.

This new expansion, 'Mad Ellie and the Cursed Vault', dives headfirst into cosmic horror. A mysterious cosmic entity is threatening Kairos, and naturally, it falls to you to trek into the new 'Whispering Glaciers' region to smash some alien monoliths. Joining the fray for these new missions is Ellie, the daughter of the series icon, Moxxi.

Players can also take control of 'Cash', a former casino dealer bot and the game's fifth playable character. The update packs in two main boss fights and 16 mini-boss encounters. Furthermore, the teal-tier gear—outshining even Legendary items—makes a comeback, alongside new distractions like ice fishing for rewards with dynamite or the 'Nightmare Rifts' mode, designed for those who fancy a gauntlet of boss rushes.

Despite the additions, early impressions on Steam are firmly 'Mixed'. Critics argue that the actual narrative playtime is alarmingly brief, with the remaining content feeling rather thin for the cost. There is also a fair bit of grumbling regarding the new account-wide progress sharing, which players claim has effectively killed the joy of replaying the game from scratch.

Elsewhere on the charts, the new Life is Strange entry, 'Reunion', debuted in 8th place with a 'Very Positive' rating from users. Dead by Daylight, having wrapped up its spring sale, kicked off its Blood Moon event, climbing to 5th place.

In the daily peak Concurrent Players top 20, both the Legacy and Enhanced versions of GTA 5 saw a marginal uptick, landing at 15th and 17th respectively. The excitement surrounding the Dead by Daylight event clearly bled over from the sales charts, pushing its Concurrent Players count high enough to secure 18th place.
