Blizzard has finally revealed the reworked design for the new Overwatch hero 'Anlan', who faced heavy criticism for looking far too similar to existing models like Juno.

Anlan, the older sister of the support hero 'Wuyang', first made her appearance in the comic 'Ride the Wave'. Back then, she was pitched as a 'tough older sister' archetype. However, once her 3D model was released, players were quick to point out that—aside from her haircut—she was practically indistinguishable from other Asian heroes like Juno, D.Va, and Kiriko. It even reached a point where her own English voice actor took to social media to criticize the character's lack of visual identity.

As the backlash grew, Overwatch Director Aaron Keller stepped in on the 10th to confirm a design overhaul. He admitted that the initial implementation failed to capture the mature, resolute spirit that fans had grown to expect from her media appearances.

Then, on the morning of the 7th, the development team finally pulled the curtain back on the new Anlan. She now sports sharper eyes, a more defined jawline, and less prominent cheeks. Her mouth is wider too, which helps convey a sense of confidence in her poses and expressions. The developers noted, "We failed to show her fiery, intense personality, but this update is intended to bolster her overall presence."

The general consensus among players is quite positive. While many still argue she doesn't perfectly match her trailer debut, the community is largely welcoming the change, especially noting that she now bears a more convincing family resemblance to her brother, Wuyang. Many agree that her sharper features are a much better fit for her character setting.
