A US court has granted preliminary approval for a settlement worth approximately $7.85 million in an antitrust class-action lawsuit against Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE).

The lawsuit centers on allegations that Sony stifled market competition by restricting digital game sales exclusively to the PlayStation Store. By preventing third-party retailers like Amazon from selling digital game codes, Sony allegedly limited price competition, forcing consumers to pay higher prices.

According to the settlement, US users who purchased digital games from the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023, are eligible for compensation. The list of affected titles includes major popular games such as Destiny 2, NieR:Automata, Resident Evil 4, and The Last of Us.

With the court's preliminary approval, eligible claimants can receive compensation through a dedicated settlement website. Participants must decide whether to join the settlement by July 2, and the final approval hearing is scheduled for October 15. The actual payout will depend on the final court approval and the number of participants.

Meanwhile, it remains unconfirmed whether this settlement will have any impact on users outside of the United States.
