Amazon Prime Video is replacing the actor cast as Kratos for its upcoming God of War live-action series.

According to a report from Deadline, Ryan Hurst, who was cast as Kratos, suffered a torn bicep while filming a stunt sequence last June. Considering his recovery process following surgery, production has been halted. While the studio wishes him a speedy recovery, they have decided to replace Ryan Hurst with a new actor to ensure the overall release schedule is met. The identity of the new actor for Kratos has not yet been announced.

Although Ryan Hurst had already completed filming for approximately four episodes, the existing footage will be entirely reshot with the new actor. This is also due to the fact that Calum Vinson, who plays Atreus, is growing, making it practically impossible to use the previously filmed footage.

Ryan Hurst previously provided the voice and motion capture for Thor, a formidable antagonist in God of War Ragnarök. His outstanding performance earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the BAFTA Games Awards. His casting drew significant attention, as a former antagonist in the game was set to play the protagonist in the live-action adaptation.

Meanwhile, the God of War live-action series follows Kratos, a Spartan warrior with a dark past, as he journeys across the Norse realms with his son to scatter the ashes of his late wife. The production team stated that the series will focus on the psychological evolution and bond between father and son, exploring how a father passes on divinity to his child while the child awakens the father's sense of humanity.
