Darkest Dungeon, the game that tested the resolve of countless players, is making a comeback with a new DLC after a six-year hiatus.

Red Hook Studios announced the Darkest Dungeon DLC 'Fire's Edge' via a Steam post on the 22nd. The most notable addition is the arrival of two characters from the sequel: the 'Runaway' and the 'Duelist'. The Runaway joins as a damage dealer capable of inflicting burn-based damage over time, while also providing utility through movement and support skills. The Duelist wields a rapier and utilizes a 'Stance' mechanic, allowing for fluid transitions between offensive and defensive playstyles.

The update also bolsters core content. Alongside the Runaway, a new 'Burn' mechanic is introduced, accompanied by a fresh trinket system that includes growth-based trinkets, as well as limitations on activation counts and expedition frequency. Furthermore, players can expect three new estate facilities: the Duelist's Academy, the Workshop, and the Archaeological Dig Site.

Updates for the original Darkest Dungeon had effectively ceased since July of last year as the studio pivoted its focus to the sequel. However, given that many players still prefer the original over its successor, expectations are high regarding whether this DLC marks the start of a sustained content revival for the first game.
