Look, let's be honest: Busan is once again the place to be. The Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency have announced that the 2026 Overwatch World Cup group stage will take place at the Busan Esports Arena from May 20 to May 23.

The group stage is the real meat of the Overwatch World Cup. Sixteen nations, having survived the gauntlet of the conference cups and online qualifiers, will be split into four groups for a round-robin brawl. Only the top two from each group—eight squads in total—will punch their ticket to the final stage at BlizzCon 2026 in Anaheim, USA.

Fans can look forward to official meet-and-greets with national teams, and the matches will be broadcast globally with multi-language support. The South Korean team is packed with heavy hitters, including 'Junbin' (Park Jun-bin) and 'Heesang' (Chae Hee-sang), stars who have already conquered the Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) and other major global circuits.

If that isn't enough, the BEXCO Exhibition Center 1 will host 'Overwatch Day' on May 22 and 23. Hosted by Nexon, the event features a viewing party for the World Cup, a send-off ceremony for the South Korean team, a talk show with Overwatch developers, influencer show matches, and a stamp tour that brings the game’s Busan map to life in reality.

Lee Jae-deok, the acting director of the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, noted, "In a year as meaningful as the 10th anniversary of Overwatch, it is fitting to return to Busan, a city that has given fans such fond memories through various Overwatch events." The acting director added, "We aim to set a new benchmark for Busan-style mega esports events, blending top-tier competition with festivals that invite citizen participation."

The acting director further remarked, "Our role extends beyond the event itself; we are committed to sharing the operational know-how and global networks we cultivate here with local businesses, players, and creators."
