Terra Nil, the environmental strategy title where ecosystem shifts are the name of the game, has just received a massive, free update.

On the 8th, Devolver Digital announced the official release of 'Heatwave', the second free update for Terra Nil. Developed by Free Lives and published by Devolver Digital, the game tasks players with restoring a barren planet into a breathing ecosystem, with the ultimate goal of packing up one's gear and leaving no trace behind. This latest update is now live across all platforms simultaneously.

The Heatwave update brings a fresh batch of restoration zones, creatures, maps, and eco-tech to the table. Most notably, three new high-difficulty regions—including deserts and canyons—have been added, accompanied by bespoke structures and systems designed to tackle these harsh environments. Furthermore, 13 new animal species, such as crocodiles, elephants, hyenas, and eagles, have arrived to populate the desert and savanna biomes.

In addition, the game now features new maps covering desert, valley, and flood zone terrains. Players must navigate canyons and extinguish blazing oil wells to complete restoration efforts under challenging natural conditions. New tools like the 'Recycling Bot', which restores land via remote control, and the 'Xerophytium' building, specialised for cactus biome restoration, provide more precision and depth for your strategic efforts.

Finally, the update introduces a 'Photo Mode', allowing you to capture the sight of animals thriving in your restored wilderness. With a scoring system that rewards your photography skills, there is now an extra layer of engagement beyond simply admiring the view.
