The cast for the 'Street Fighter' movie, slated for release next October, has finally been unveiled. Notably, Blanka will be portrayed by Jason Momoa, a familiar face from 'Aquaman' and 'Minecraft'.

Capcom announced on the 5th that the live-action 'Street Fighter' film has officially begun production, alongside a star-studded list of 17 cast members. The roster includes Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile, Blanka, Dhalsim, Zangief, Honda, Dan Hibiki, Don Sobage, Cammy, Juli, Joe, Vega, Balrog, Mike Bison, and Akuma. The characters and their respective actors were revealed on the official 'Street Fighter' movie X (Twitter) page, presented in a nostalgic pixel-art style.

Andrew Koji takes on the role of Ryu, while Noah Centineo is cast as Ken, and Kalina Liang steps into the shoes of Chun-Li. However, the most eyebrow-raising choice is undoubtedly Blanka. Jason Momoa, who famously starred as the lead in 'Aquaman', has been tapped for the role. Having also featured in this year’s successful game-based film 'Minecraft', all eyes are now on Jason Momoa to see how he will tackle the green, feral powerhouse of the Street Fighter franchise.

Beyond the headline act, the casting choices are quite eccentric. WWE professional wrestler Roman Reigns has been cast as Akuma, and fellow WWE star Cody Rhodes will portray Guile. Joe will be played by Australian UFC mixed martial arts fighter Alexander Volkanovski. Meanwhile, the rapper 50 Cent is set to appear as Mike Bison, and the American comedian Eric Andre will play the role of Don Sobage.

The real question on everyone's mind is what kind of film this eclectic mix will produce. Capcom has stated that this production is part of a broader 'One Source Multi Use' strategy to bolster the global sales of their core gaming business and strengthen IP branding. The company added that they view video production based on their games as a crucial opportunity to expand their reach beyond current gamers to a much wider audience.

The 'Street Fighter' movie is scheduled for release on October 16 next year.
