Dragon Ball is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and a brand-new game project has been unveiled. The real hook here is that the protagonist is an original design penned by the late series creator, Akira Toriyama.

The reveal took place on the 25th at the 'Dragon Ball Genki Dama Festival' held at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo. Amidst a flurry of updates regarding new animations, the project codenamed 'AGE 1000' was officially announced.

In the two-minute teaser, we get our first glimpse of a protagonist who has never appeared before. Decked out in gear sporting the Capsule Corporation logo, this character is seen tearing through a virtual training ground before pulling off a Super Saiyan transformation in the final act. It has been confirmed that this design was crafted by Akira Toriyama before his passing.

AGE 1000 is currently targeted for a 2027 release, though details regarding the genre or platforms remain unconfirmed. Further information is expected to be announced during the 'Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026' event, scheduled for April 19 and 20 in Los Angeles.

Among the community, speculation is rising that it could be an open-world RPG, given that 'AGE 1000' was the setting for Dragon Ball Online. Some fans have expressed mixed reactions, with comments such as "not enough information despite the hype," "the character design is underwhelming," or "it looks more like a fan-made project than an official one."
