Conan Exiles is marking its eighth anniversary with a striking graphical overhaul. Not only are we getting a shiny Unreal Engine 5 glow-up, but the storage footprint is also being slashed to a third of its original size, dropping from 120GB to just 40GB.

Funcom announced on the 23rd that to celebrate eight years since its official launch, a massive visual revamp dubbed 'Conan Exiles Enhanced' will arrive on May 5th. This update is a collaborative effort with Inflexion Games, and the best part? It is entirely free for existing Steam owners. As for other platforms, the studio has stated they are currently considering future updates.

'Conan Exiles' is an open-world survival game firmly rooted in the legendary 'Conan the Barbarian' universe by Robert E. Howard. Since its 2018 release, it has amassed over 15 million players worldwide, solidifying its status as a heavyweight in the genre. You are dropped into a brutal wasteland where survival means scavenging resources, constructing massive fortresses, and crushing hostile factions with unparalleled freedom.

The real meat of this enhanced version is the migration to Unreal Engine 5. This update breathes new life into eight years of accumulated content, applying modern rendering techniques, sophisticated shaders, and a complete UI overhaul. The goal is a buttery-smooth 60FPS experience across most PC setups, with a particular focus on ensuring stable performance for handhelds like the Steam Deck.

Furthermore, the UI/UX is getting a much-needed tidy up, and the team is promising new modding development kits to keep the community busy. In terms of map design, the 'Exiled Lands' and the expansion map 'Isle of Siptah' are being merged into one seamless, continuous world, which promises to shake up the local landscape.
