The Super Mario Bros. franchise has practically made a hobby out of shattering its own price ceiling. Back in 2021, a copy of Super Mario 64 went for $1.5 million (approx. 2.25 billion KRW), and in 2022, another Super Mario Bros. package managed to rake in $2 million (approx. 3 billion KRW).

The unit sold on the 12th (local time) comes with a PSA 9.6 A++ certification and a verified sticker, proving it is the real deal. It is one of the early second-run production units from the 1985 classic, cementing its status as one of the oldest surviving Super Mario Bros. packages ever unearthed.

A representative from Heritage Auctions noted that the fact this copy remained sealed and untouched for roughly 40 years is precisely what sent its value into the stratosphere. Best of luck to the new owner.
