Overwatch Season 3, 'Into the Tiger's Den', is introducing a new skin tier.

The third season of Overwatch kicked off on the 17th. It brings a new damage hero, 'Sion', alongside fresh maps, skins, and the usual balance tweaks. More importantly, we're seeing the debut of a new 'Ultra' skin tier, starting with the 'Nyancafe' series.

Cosmetics in Overwatch are generally split between weapons and character looks, currently tiered as Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Mythic. The elusive Mythic tier remains the crown jewel, obtainable via the Battle Pass or by spending Prisms in the Mythic shop.

The newly minted Ultra skins—which sit somewhere between Legendary and Mythic—boast unique visual effects, kill animations, and background flair. The debutants are Sierra and Kiriko in their 'Nyancafe' getups, inspired by the aesthetic of a cat-themed maid café. Kiriko’s skin emphasises her ability effects, while Sierra brings some rather punchy kill animations to the table.

Meanwhile, the Season 3 patch also heralds a collaboration with Japanese music sensation 'YOASOBI'. Starting July 1st, the event will feature a dedicated track, an animated music video by A-1 Pictures, and themed skins for Hanzo, Genji, and Kiriko.
