The veil has been lifted on the new Overwatch hero arriving in the upcoming Season 5. It is 'Doctrine', a support hero built around a vampire theme.

Blizzard dropped new details regarding Overwatch during the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony held on September 13. First up, 'Doctrine'—an associate of Doomfist sporting a vampire motif—made an appearance. Armed with a staff that heals allies and damages foes, Doctrine empowers abilities through infusions. Using bat-like drones, Doctrine saps enemy life force to patch up teammates. Doctrine lands in Season 5, and you can try out the character early through a special hero trial period running until September 15.

Season 5 will finally unveil the conclusion to the year-long 'Talon's Reign' arc. Through the footage, you can watch Doomfist team up with Reaper, Widowmaker, and Sombra to infiltrate Watchpoint: Grimsvötn and bust Doctrine out of prison.

As mentioned earlier, Grimsvötn is a remote prison located in Iceland, and it is also being added as a brand-new map. On top of that, Sombra and Roadhog are getting major reworks in Season 5. Sombra's role shifts from Damage to Support, while Roadhog gains a brand-new ability to absorb and fling back enemy projectiles.

Looking ahead to Season 6, the tenth new hero of the year will join the roster. This character is investigating three specific zones, with further details to be revealed later down the line. Plus, an Overwatch Spotlight event laying out next year's roadmap is scheduled for February.

Even after the opening ceremony, the Overwatch World Cup, various panel programs, and performances by LE SSERAFIM and YOASOBI await. A one-shot tabletop RPG session titled 'Questwatch' is also being hosted live at BlizzCon. Matthew Mercer takes the reins as the Game Master for Cassidy, guiding Sombra, Symmetra, Reinhardt, and Vendetta through a brand-new spin-off adventure.
