Look, let's be honest: coding competitions usually involve a lot of staring at lines of text, but Nexon is shaking things up. On the 24th, Nexon announced the conclusion of the online qualifiers for the Nexon Young Programmers Cup (NYPC), locking in the finalists for this year's event. The competition has garnered significant attention after shifting its focus from standard algorithmic problem-solving to artificial intelligence proficiency, drawing roughly 6,000 applicants to the starting line.

For the first time, the Master Track expanded its reach to Vietnam, drawing about 1,000 local participants into the fold. Following the Master Track qualifiers held from June 29 to July 8, and the Rookie Track qualifiers spanning July 10 to 19, approximately 70 participants from each track have secured their spots in the final round.

The final showdown is set for August 29. Interestingly, the event is ditching the Pangyo headquarters for a new venue in Seoul. This grand finale will host both the offline competition and the awards ceremony on the same day. The Rookie Track will test cognitive prowess through heuristic problem-solving, while the Master Track will see teams pitting AI agents against one another in a tactical clash.

The total prize pool hits 50,000,000 won. Winners will be categorised into Winner, Gold, Silver, and Bronze tiers. The top victors will be awarded the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award, alongside honours from the Korea Creative Content Agency, the Game Culture Foundation, and the Nexon Foundation. Furthermore, Master Track winners gain a golden ticket to apply for a hands-on internship at Nexon.

Nexon Foundation Chairman Kim Jung-wook stated, "In the NYPC qualifiers, reborn as an AI strategy-focused programming contest, the potential and capabilities of the participants were clearly evident." The Chairman added, "I hope the finalists will fully showcase their skills on the main stage and gain invaluable experience that helps them grow to the next level."
