Set in a fictionalized version of 1939 China, a new anti-Japanese resistance FMV game has hit Steam, currently boasting a 'Very Positive' rating.

Patriot Memoirs is a story-driven historical narrative title that launched on the 6th. The game is set in the occupied fictional city of Sangcheon, where players step into the shoes of Zhu Seming, a military academy graduate infiltrating the infamous 'No. 86' den of the Japanese imperial forces to root out independence fighters.

During the day, the protagonist plays the role of a collaborator exploited by superiors, only to transform into an operative judging the enemy by night. Players can sneak around during the day while managing duties, or explore ballrooms and casinos after hours. As a spy, the protagonist must master skills like lock-picking, handling microfilm, and surviving lie detector tests, alongside odd interactions ranging from knife work to crafting latte art.

The game spans roughly 10 hours across six chapters. It features a multi-ending system tied to player choices, with a convenience feature that unlocks replayability for different paths once an ending is reached.

The developer, Karma Game HK, claims to have built the world based on actual historical records and events. The production team stated, "We wanted to tell the story of how an ordinary patriot infiltrated the heart of the enemy during the darkest of times," adding, "We hope players feel the weight of the time endured by ordinary people keeping the flicker of hope alive until the long night ends."

As of the 7th, Patriot Memoirs holds a 'Very Positive' (83% positive) rating on Steam. User feedback includes comments like, "The overall pacing is decent," "While the story starts a bit flat, the final two chapters are quite tight," "QTEs and exploration elements are a fresh take for an FMV," and "The way it handles information asymmetry is intriguing." However, some have noted occasional mismatches between dialogue and events, alongside criticisms regarding the quality of the Korean localization.
