Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, slated for an October release, is gearing up for its upcoming test. Following the latest news, the title has climbed the Steam charts, reaching 2nd place on August 21, just a day before the test begins.

Modern Warfare 4 depicts a full-scale invasion of the Korean Peninsula by North Korea. The game showcases massive global warfare spanning from Korean trench combat to urban skirmishes in New York and Paris. The test will feature the series' first-ever single-player campaign, while the multiplayer component offers 6v6 maps such as 'Rooftop' and 'Silkworm'.

The developer has refined the optimization and introduced new modes. The DMZ mode, which debuted in Modern Warfare 2, makes a return. The developer has designed the AI units to apply increasing pressure as engagement intensifies, creating a dynamic battlefield. Significant changes, such as the ability to utilize collected blueprints, have also been implemented.

The test is split into two phases. The first week, reserved for pre-purchase customers and code holders, runs from August 22 at 3:00 AM to August 26 at 2:00 AM (KST). The second phase, open to everyone without restrictions, begins on August 29 at 2:00 AM and ends on September 2 at 2:00 AM, with support for Nintendo Switch 2. It seems the requirement of 'pre-purchase' for the first phase has significantly boosted sales figures.

Elsewhere, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl claimed 4th place alongside its new DLC release. The first expansion, 'Cost of Hope', is currently holding a 'Mostly Positive' user rating. Several new titles also broke into the rankings, with the fishing simulator 'How to Fish' taking 5th place and the WWI-themed 'Gallipoli' landing in 7th.

In the top 20 peak concurrent players, the legacy version of GTA 5 reached 14th place with 93,808 players, an increase of roughly 15,000 from the previous day. Meanwhile, other titles saw a decline; one dropped out of the rankings as its peak fell to the 73,000 range, and Helldivers 2 slipped to 20th place with 74,839 players.
