Nintendo dropped a massive wave of announcements during the Nintendo Direct 2026.9.9 broadcast, covering everything from first-party exclusives to major partner projects.

Nintendo shared fresh details on upcoming software and new hardware during the showcase on the 9th. The broadcast pulled in gamers with a lineup spanning core first-party titles and highly anticipated releases from key third-party partners.

The live stream revealed several eagerly awaited titles, including a brand-new open-world entry in the Kirby series. First up is Kirby World Beyond, slated for a spring release next year to celebrate the franchise's 35th anniversary. Fans are buzzing to see how the trademark copy abilities will blend with the series' first-ever open-world exploration.

On top of that, Persona 6, the latest entry in Atlus' flagship franchise, and the anticipated Persona 4 Revival have been confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2. Persona 6 looks to inherit the series' trademark stylish flair, emotional world-building, and distinctive progression and combat systems while introducing an entirely new urban setting and next-gen narrative. Persona 4 Revival, which teased releases across multiple platforms, is heading to Nintendo Switch 2 on May 20 next year.

Level-5's iconic Professor Layton series is also making a comeback with Professor Layton and the New World of Steam. Set to launch on December 10, the game takes place in Steam Bison, a fictional American city that grew rapidly through steam civilization. Professor Layton and Luke will team up to unravel bizarre mysteries hidden within the town under that signature emotional art style, reviving the magic of classic adventures.

Marvelous also showcased Eternal Anima, a brand-new original IP JRPG. Featuring striking 3D graphics and Marvelous' signature art style, the game centers around the Dokusatsu mechanic, allowing players to read memories lingering in objects and inherit past heroes' jobs and skills. Players can anticipate an innovative inheritance-based strategic RPG where they predict enemy movement trajectories during battle to neutralize threats and turn the tide. Eternal Anima is set for release on March 4 next year.

Several titles based on popular IPs were also revealed. Fitness Boxing Touken Ranbu is launching on January 15 next year, featuring six Touken Ranbu characters as fitness trainers. Additionally, a mystery game based on the anime The Apothecary Diaries is slated for an early 2027 release, drawing attention as the original author Natsu Hyuuga is in charge of the story concept and scenario.

A flurry of expansions and sequels for existing titles was also announced. Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will launch bundled with Everyone Challenge! Planning Skill Test. Other highlights include Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity DX, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, and Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass Vol. 2. Notably, the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass Vol. 2 introduces new accessory customization features letting players deck out their Pokémon with stylish items like sunglasses, Sylveon ribbons, and bow ties alongside brand-new Pokémon additions.

Furthermore, heavy hitters like Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Crisis Core –Final Fantasy VII– Reunion, and the Resident Evil RE:2, RE:3, and RE:4 series are gearing up to showcase the enhanced performance of the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. Previously teased action titles like Mega Man: Dual Override and a Nintendo Switch 2 port of the hit Steam game Mechajump Chameleon also made appearances.

Other upcoming titles include Dragon Quest Monsters 4: The Arid Land's Bianca and Flora, the fighting game Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, and Metal Slug Ultimate Collection marking the series' 30th anniversary. Romancing SaGa 3 Destinies United, Fire Emblem Manzachenhong, and Ondeh Ondeh: Kaya's Sweet Adventure also made the pipeline.
