Funcom kicked off early access for Dune: Awakening on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on September 17. Buyers of the deluxe and ultimate editions can jump straight into the harsh sands right now.

Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival game heavily inspired by Frank Herbert's legendary sci-fi epic Dune, alongside the cinematic vision brought by Legendary Entertainment and director Denis Villeneuve.

Following its PC debut last June, the console version lands on September 22 alongside a Game Pass launch. Snagging the deluxe or ultimate console editions lets you play early starting September 17, packing in a whole year's worth of PC updates, content drops, and quality-of-life tweaks right out of the box.

PC players aren't left out either, receiving a fresh update that introduces a dedicated single-player mode. You also get a beefed-up gameplay customisation system letting you tweak resource gathering efficiency, death penalties, and XP gains to your liking.

The update brings story content covering the first chapter of the Dune narrative, alongside various optimisations. PvP is now entirely optional, and deep desert endgame content features separate PvE and PvP instances structured around mission-based objectives. You can rise through the ranks for either House Atreides or House Harkonnen to shape your late-game progression.

You can now save bases and recover vehicles, while the tax system has been given the boot and death penalties softened. New maps, dungeons, weapons, and encounters join the mix, alongside Augmentations and Specializations systems giving you more build variety. Melee combat and overall action systems have also been polished up.

Steam users can grab the game at up to 50 percent off until October 8, marking an all-time low price. Funcom Chief Product Officer Scott Junior noted, "This version is easily the most polished Dune: Awakening yet, available across all three platforms starting on the 17th. We are thrilled to welcome new players to a bigger, richer Arrakis, and we cannot wait to see returning veterans back in action."
