Frontier Developments (hereinafter Frontier) launched its zoo management simulation game, Planet Zoo 2, on August 13.

The developer puts players in the shoes of a new conservation manager for the Fauna and Ecosystems Network, tasked with tackling global-scale conservation efforts. Over 130 species of animals make an appearance, and players can finally construct long-awaited aviaries, aquariums, and wildlife sanctuaries. Featuring meticulous texture rendering for fur, feathers, and scales, alongside lifelike animal behaviours, this entry delivers the most realistic animal depictions in the series yet.

To meet the unique needs of various animals, players must craft habitats and exhibition spaces inspired by natural environments. Sculpted construction tools, intuitive terrain tools, and the Frontier Workshop let players design their dream zoos with absolute freedom.

In addition, Career, Franchise, and Sandbox modes allow players to build a worldwide network of zoos and sanctuaries, trade animals with other players, and cooperate on community goals. The new Planet Hub offers a bird's-eye view of a growing conservation network, while a first-person camera mode lets players explore their own zoos and sanctuaries up close. As of 11:00 am on August 14, user reviews for Planet Zoo 2 on Steam sit at Mostly Positive, backed by 918 user submissions and a 71% approval rating. Players have showered praise on the addition of aquatic and flying animals—something fans had been begging for since the predecessor—alongside significant quality-of-life improvements. On the flip side, some complaints are rolling in regarding resetting settings, shaky server conditions, and connection issues.
