Relu Games has rolled out its second major update of the year to mark the first anniversary of the early access launch of Mimesis.

Mimesis, launched as an early access title in October of last year, is a four-player co-op horror game. Its standout feature is that AI-driven NPC monsters mimic the appearance, actions, and voices of players to blend seamlessly among teammates. As an 'AI native game' that weaves artificial intelligence right into the core framework of the gameplay, the AI functions as a central mechanism shaping the player experience rather than just a basic systemic element. This latest update carries the concept 'OFF THE RAILS'—capturing situations where the tram veers off its established path and the psychological chaos bred by paranoia—focusing heavily on expanding the uniquely tense gameplay experience of Mimesis where you must cooperate with your peers while simultaneously suspecting everyone around you.

The biggest shift comes with the introduction of the 'paranoia' system and enhanced behavioral patterns for the AI-powered monsters. The paranoia system is designed so that each player perceives entirely different situations depending on their in-game contamination level. When the contamination level rises, unexpected variables kick in—such as only specific players seeing the Mimesis monster or hearing strange whispers—which is expected to ratchet up the suspicion and confusion among teammates even further. In particular, the monster 'Mimesis', implemented as an AI-driven NPC, has received upgrades that allow it to observe player habits and react much more meticulously to the surrounding environment. Consequently, the monster can now mimic player actions with greater natural flair, deepening the psychological warfare inherent in the co-op loop.

Exploration environments and content have also seen substantial overhauls. A new map set against a movie set backdrop features a structure with no clear boundaries between indoors and outdoors, delivering a play environment distinct from existing maps. Upon entering this map, a crash landing sequence plays out, with the tram arriving in unexpected locations. Alongside this, new monsters, scrap items, and a garage have been introduced. The developer has also broadened the player experience by adding inventory expansions, communication gear to chat with teammates, and hazardous traps. On top of all that, the overall game UI has been revamped to boost convenience.

To celebrate the first anniversary of the early access release, user-driven content and discount perks have also been prepared. Players who obtain a 'Survival Report Card' generated based on their personal play records can net a first-anniversary commemorative skin. During the Steam Halloween event 'Scream V', running from October 27 to November 3, the game will feature its biggest discount yet at 60 percent off. Pre-orders for Mimesis merchandise will also kick off on October 27 through EBTEN, the game and anime merchandise sales channel of the global gaming specialty shopping mall KADOSUTO.
