Webzen's classic, R2, is being reimagined with Unreal Engine 5.

Webzen officially unveiled its upcoming MMORPG, 'R2 ORIGIN (Reign of Revolution ORIGIN),' by launching a teaser website on the 13th. R2 ORIGIN is a new MMORPG that inherits and recreates the gameplay of the classic IP R2 with advanced graphics powered by Unreal Engine 5. It is currently being developed by Webzen's subsidiary, 'Webzen Redcore,' with a target release within this year.

The teaser website, which goes live at 2 PM, features a 30-second video showcasing the game's graphics and the atmosphere of its world. The game explores the stories of heroes unfolding in a parallel universe of R2, and it will be provided as a cross-platform title, allowing players to enjoy the world of R2—including its territories and iconic characters—on both mobile and PC.

Furthermore, the game introduces various content that inherits the originality and authenticity of the source material. By expanding integrated server competitions, it emphasizes the competitive elements that are hallmarks of R2, while also delivering unique fun through various guild cooperation content. Leveraging Unreal Engine 5, the skill animations and combat feedback have been enhanced to increase immersion, providing a realistic gameplay experience with improved visual effects. Webzen plans to open official community channels and brand pages, and will proceed with detailed game information releases and pre-registrations according to the future schedule.

Meanwhile, Webzen announced that in addition to R2 ORIGIN, it plans to release the open-world action RPG 'Dragon Sword' and the new MU IP-based idle game 'MU: Pocket Knights' within this year.
