Word on the street is that Sylvanas is set to make a return in the next World of Warcraft expansion, 'Midnight'.

The news broke on the 23rd, courtesy of an interview between the content creator 'Psybear_tv' and the World of Warcraft development team. When asked by 'Psybear_tv' if Sylvanas would return for the battle against Xal'atath in Quel'Thalas, World of Warcraft Design Director Maria Hamilton noted, "I don't want to spoil anything, but it is highly likely that we will see Sylvanas."

After the events of the 'Shadowlands' expansion, Sylvanas set off on a path of atonement in the Maw, seemingly closing the book on an arc that had spanned years. Yet, given the status of Sylvanas as a fan-favorite character, many players felt that a permanent exit would be a rather underwhelming conclusion.

The justification for a comeback is solid enough. As the expansion focuses on Quel'Thalas—the ancestral home of the blood elves and the place where Sylvanas lived before being turned into a banshee by Arthas—the stakes are personal. With the primary narrative revolving around defending the Sunwell from the Void, it seems entirely plausible that a redeemed Sylvanas will join forces with players to push back the darkness.
