You will soon be able to experience the eerie, anomaly-ridden subway station in live-action. A film adaptation of the horror game 'The Exit 8' is set to hit local theatres this October.

This news was confirmed by Media Castle, the local distributor, via an announcement video for the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) posted to their official YouTube channel on the 28th. A closing title card in the video clearly reads, 'The Exit 8: Wide Release in October'.

As previously noted, the film has been submitted to the Busan International Film Festival, and the lead actor, Kazunari Ninomiya, will be making an appearance in Busan. In the video, Ninomiya stated, "I am coming to Busan to meet you all. I look forward to you watching 'The Exit 8' film in Busan and having the opportunity to interact with the audience."

The original horror game 'The Exit 8' focuses on navigating a subway station plagued by bizarre anomalies. The core gameplay loop involves turning back when an anomaly is spotted and pressing forward when the path is clear, all in a desperate bid to reach the eighth exit. The game became a viral sensation, spawning a wave of imitators that adopted its unique loop-based horror formula.

Riding this wave of popularity, a live-action adaptation has been produced by TOHO animation. While the film retains the 'wandering man' and 'walking man' from the source material, it also introduces two additional characters: a boy and a woman, along with new elements not found in the game.

The film 'The Exit 8' is scheduled for release in Japan on August 29th, and it has already garnered some critical recognition, winning the Best Poster award at the Grand Prix Luciole 2025 held at the Cannes Film Festival.
