The developer of 'Balatro', which has gained immense popularity across PC, consoles, and mobile, has indefinitely delayed the major 1.1 update.

LocalThunk announced on the 12th via an official developer blog that the Balatro 1.1 update, originally scheduled for this year, has been indefinitely postponed. Balatro is a solo-developed poker-themed deck-building roguelike where players combine Joker cards with various effects and standard playing cards to exceed target scores. Since its release in 2024, it has been praised for pioneering a new subgenre of deck-building roguelikes, winning Game of the Year (GOTY) at the GDC Awards.

In the blog post, LocalThunk explained their current situation: "After the official release of Balatro in February 2024, I went straight into balance patches and then immediately started the mobile porting process. When the mobile version launched, I realized I was completely burnt out." They added, "I took a few months off until early 2025 and started working slowly, but my progress seems slower now than when I was in crunch mode preparing for the initial launch."

They continued, "I don't want version 1.1 to be the final update for this game. Balatro 1.1 will be released, but I will confirm a new schedule once I am ready. Version 1.1 will be provided as a free update to users on all platforms."
