Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a massive hit among this year's releases, has officially surpassed 5 million units sold. The developers announced that they will celebrate this milestone with a large-scale free update, including a new boss battle.

The developer, Sandfall Interactive, and the publisher, Kepler Interactive, confirmed on the 8th that the game has reached 5 million cumulative sales. This figure aggregates performance across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S over the six months since its release in April.

To mark this monumental achievement, both companies expressed their gratitude to the fans and announced a major free update. The update will include a new region featuring new enemies, a powerful late-game boss battle, and new costumes for the expedition members. Additionally, they announced support for 19 new languages, including Czech, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese, along with various quality-of-life improvements.

Since its launch on April 24, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has earned a 93 critic score on Metacritic, receiving the 'Must-Play' badge. Its Steam user reviews also remain 'Overwhelmingly Positive'. The game follows the story of the 33 Expedition, who seek to break a curse in the world's last city, where people are erased once they reach the age inscribed on a monolith.

The game has been highly praised by critics and gamers alike for its graphics inspired by the French Belle Époque, a combat system that blends turn-based and real-time mechanics, and a soundtrack that enhances immersion. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is considered a strong contender for this year's Game of the Year (GOTY) awards. The developers have hinted at future installments, noting that 'Clair Obscur' is the series title and that the 33 Expedition is not the end.
