Dead Account, which kicked off its serialization in 2023, is finally making the leap to mobile and PC as a cross-platform title.

On the 10th, Smilegate announced it has signed a licensing deal with Japanese publisher Kodansha for the manga Dead Account. This deal secures global publishing rights for the upcoming title, Dead Account: Two Blue Flames, currently in the works. The signing ceremony saw the attendance of Ian Games co-CEOs Cho Kyung-joo and Park Young-jae, Kodansha's Shin Furukawa, and Smilegate Holdings Megaport division CEO Baek Young-hoon.

Dead Account: Two Blue Flames is being crafted as a team-based roguelite, blending character collection with progression mechanics. The development is being handled by Ian Games, a studio comprised of veterans who have cut their teeth on titles like Seven Knights. We expect to see more details and content that stay true to the original story and world-building as they are rolled out in the coming months.

The original manga, penned by Shizumu Watanabe, launched in 2023. It follows the protagonist, Soji Enishiro, as he transfers to Miden Academy to hunt down ghosts—digital manifestations of deceased individuals' social media accounts. For those keen on the lore, an anime adaptation is also slated for broadcast in January 2026.

Oh Byung-jin, a business manager at Smilegate, remarked that turning Dead Account into a game is more than just a simple IP expansion. He believes it will deliver a fresh experience for both existing fans and new gamers alike, adding, "We intend to leverage our publishing expertise to cement Dead Account as a global success and will continue to push for collaborations across various cultural content."

Kodansha’s Shin Furukawa added, "Dead Account stands out from your run-of-the-mill action manga thanks to its intense narrative and unique world. We are excited to see this project capture the essence of the original work and bring something truly new to the fans."
