Prepare to be swarmed by Magikarp along the Cheonggyecheon Stream during a special upcoming Pokémon GO event.

Niantic officially announced on the 1st that the Pokémon GO 2025 Seoul Lantern Festival is coming. From December 12th to 17th, you can stroll through the brightly lit Cheonggyecheon Stream, soaking up the atmosphere while tackling various in-game bonuses and Timed Research tasks.

The real highlight kicks in daily from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, where Magikarp will appear in droves every 30 minutes for a 3-minute window. If you are feeling particularly lucky, you might even encounter their Shiny variants, including a Shiny Gyarados. Expect increased spawn rates for XXS and XXL Magikarp, one extra daily special trade, and Lure Modules that stick around for three hours, all accented by themed confetti.

Furthermore, two free Timed Research quests exclusive to the Cheonggyecheon area are being added. These will reward you with XP, Stardust, and plenty of Magikarp Candy. You can also snag themed stickers from PokéStops and Gyms in the area, and don't forget to pose at the special photo zones.
