'Goddess of Victory: NIKKE' isn't just about the Nikke fighting to reclaim the surface; it’s about the ordinary citizens struggling to survive in the Ark. It’s a diverse tapestry of human life that cuts deep. Among these citizens, one character from the recent story events 'BLANK TICKET' and 'TERMINUS TICKET' has been the talk of the town: Nora. While piecing together this narrative, I found myself unable to stop the tears thinking about her journey to the great beyond. Let’s look back at the woman who left such a lingering impression on all of us in the winter of 2025.

A free spirit trapped within the Ark

Nora was one of the few who lived on the surface before the First Rapture Invasion. She was a traveler at heart, the type you’d say had 'wanderlust' in her veins. When the Rapture invasion began, she was lucky enough to secure a ticket to the Ark, joining the rest of humanity in their subterranean prison.

Once inside, Nora used the skills she’d honed on her travels to open a dress shop. It wasn't exactly a high-fashion empire, but it kept her afloat. She truly believed she’d return to the surface soon, so she never considered becoming a Nikke. By the time she realised that hope was futile, she was already past the age limit. In the early days of the Ark, only men could be Commanders, so that path was closed to her anyway. Time marched on, and Nora eventually became an old woman with white hair and skin like parchment.

Unwilling to let her life end trapped within the Ark, Nora closed her shop and boarded the AZX, reminiscing about the trains she’d taken in her youth. She was, frankly, a bit of a nuisance to a child who loved the Ark’s scenery while the train just looped around. Staying until the last train, she found herself alone in the cabin until Soline, who was doing a safety check, stumbled upon her. Their first meeting was a disaster—just a stubborn woman refusing to disembark and a frustrated conductor. However, Soline noticed the sadness in Nora’s eyes and returned with the Commander to get the full story.

Nora confessed that she had been acting out because she was jealous of the Nikke and the Commander who got to see the surface. She shared her past and her dream: to close her eyes on the surface, even if it meant risking her life. When Soline and the Commander showed pity, Nora actually comforted them, saying that finding a friend like Soline in her twilight years was enough. Before they parted, she made them promise to meet her on the last AZX train one week later.

When they met again, Nora gifted Soline a handmade dress. Soline, having changed into it immediately, handed Nora a ticket to nowhere—with the promise that when the AZX reached the surface, she would make sure to take Nora there. Nora thanked Soline for giving her a reason to live.

Shortly after, good news arrived: the Central Government was sending three civilians to the surface via the AZX. Upon hearing this, Nora, missing someone dearly, wrote 'TERMINUS' as her destination.

Returning to the Surface, Towards TERMINUS

The violence of time upon a traveler

TERMINUS means 'the final stop.' In the 'TERMINUS TICKET' event, we learned exactly why Nora chose that name. She applied for the surface-bound AZX, and fortunately, she was selected as one of the three civilians. She waited for the departure date with a racing heart.

She expressed her gratitude to Diesel and Brid for this opportunity by gifting them crew uniforms just like the one she gave Soline. Even though she’d never met them, the sizes fit perfectly—a testament to her impeccable design sense. After saying goodbye to the Commander, Nero, Signal, Mary, and Julia, she finally boarded the AZX bound for the surface.

The surface, unseen since the First Rapture Invasion, was desolate. Debris from shattered buildings and overgrown weeds greeted her eyes. It was nothing like the world she remembered, yet she was struck with awe, reminding herself that travel is, at its core, about witnessing the unknown.

The first stop was a ruined city. Nero found a fawn that had lost its family, and Nora suggested they find the carcasses of the other deer to give them a proper burial. As they carried out the task, Soline cautiously asked the Commander, 'Why are we treating toy deer like real ones?' A dark premonition flickered in my mind.

While riding to the next destination, she asked Julia to play her favourite song. Diesel tried to join in, but let’s just say it was an assault on the ears. Suddenly, the AZX alarm blared. Brid announced that Raptures were ahead and everyone needed to buckle up. Watching the Raptures fly after being struck by the train made Nora realise that the surface wasn't just a place to visit—it was a war zone.

The second destination was the heart of a desert. Ignoring the scorching heat that even Nikke found taxing, Nora wandered into the dunes. She pointed toward a figure in the distance, but the others couldn't see anything. Even when told it was likely a mirage, she kept walking toward it. When a sandstorm loomed, the Commander urged her to turn back.

Nora refused, saying, 'That person might be waiting for me,' and walked into the storm. It was too late to escape, so the group shielded her as best they could. Thankfully, Brid had been monitoring the situation and steered the AZX nearby to rescue them. However, the elderly Nora had lost consciousness due to the storm and was taken to the medical bay.

That evening, Nora awoke with a groan. But something was wrong. She didn't recognize Mary. She had no memory of what had happened and slipped back into unconsciousness. Mary, taking this seriously, diagnosed her with a condition similar to delirium—a state where she would lose and regain memories while suffering from hallucinations and delusions.

The traveler finally returns home

The group was split: some wanted to keep traveling, others wanted to rush back to the Ark for treatment. Nora overheard the argument, which only worsened her condition. She started mistaking the Commander for her lover, 'Lucian', and her grip on reality continued to fray.

Brid, who had initially pushed for returning to the Ark, eventually sided with continuing the journey after talking with Nora. Nora gave them the address of her old home, asking them to find the remains of her only family, Lucian, if they ever made it there.

Time passed, and the journey reached its third destination: a snowy mountain Nora had visited in her youth. Despite the freezing cold, she climbed ahead of even the Commander. When they reached a cliff, she shook her head at Diesel’s suggestion to return to the train and declared, 'My journey ends here.'

Nora’s health was steadily declining. Returning to the Ark now would offer little hope for recovery. Unfortunately, she heard this news, and she made up her mind to end her life alone on the mountain.

Diesel told her they hadn't reached the final stop yet and promised to stay by her side until they found her family. Nora was visibly shaken. In truth, the group had planned to take her home all along. It was a consensus: Soline wanted to fulfill her dream, Brid believed a conductor’s duty was to deliver passengers safely, and Diesel wanted her to meet her family in her remaining time.

Suddenly, Nora’s condition seemed to improve—a 'terminal lucidity,' a brief flash of brightness before the end. Mary, the doctor, nodded, signaling that they should let her do as she pleased. Nora suggested a party with surface apples. The entire crew joined in; Julia played music, Diesel sang (poorly), and they drank the alcohol Brid had brought. Nora then fell into a three-day slumber.

When she woke up, they told her they had arrived. She stumbled off the train and, amidst the changed landscape, found her only family: Lucian. She remembered the past—how she had left him behind, how he had confessed his love, and how she had never answered. Lucian was just as she remembered, welcoming her home.

Nora asked him, tearfully, 'You fool, were you waiting for me?' Lucian replied as if it were obvious, 'Of course. We made a promise.' Thinking of the loneliness and pain Lucian must have endured waiting for her, Nora burst into tears. Lucian comforted her, saying, 'We finally met, didn't we?' Nora finally accepted the confession she had left unanswered for so long. The phantom Lucian smiled brightly, happy to finally hear her reply. Her first love had become her final love.

When Nora stopped suddenly after getting off the train, Soline approached her gently. Nora began to sob uncontrollably. Her wails held the relief of being home, the longing for the family she had lost, and the crushing weight of regret. After a moment, she made one last request to the group.

Nora suddenly woke up. She felt stiff as she tried to recall her dreams, but they were a blur. Just as she dismissed it as nonsense, she heard Lucian’s voice. He complained about her barging into his house, and when she seemed confused, he reminded her it was their wedding day. Nora blinked, then scrambled to get ready.

She rushed to get her makeup done by Mary, who was waiting for her. Lucian couldn't stop showering her with compliments, saying he was falling for her all over again. As they hurried to catch the train, she realized Soline had chartered the entire AZX for this day.

Upon arriving, Brid, Soline, and Diesel greeted her. There was even a massive banner, which made Nora blush. The wedding venue was filled with flowers, with the Commander officiating, Julia playing her favorite nursery rhyme, and Signal and Nero cheering them on. It was a perfect wedding. Nora thanked everyone, and Diesel replied through tears.

Even if it was just a dream or a hallucination, Nora was happy. Her loved ones had granted her request and cared for her, and that was enough. With an oxygen mask on, she apologized to Soline for having said she was 'jealous of Nikke who could easily travel the surface.' Soline, choked up, couldn't speak. Nora whispered that it had been the best trip of her life, thanked them all, and drifted off to sleep. Saying she would go ahead and wait with Lucian, her hand went limp, and the flatline echoed through the room.

She passed away in a bed adorned with a white veil. Soline finally broke down, and Diesel cried with her, trying to comfort her. Brid swallowed her sobs, whispering that it had been an honour to serve her until the very end.

The group prepared two graves as requested: one for the owner of the diary, and one for Nora. The diary contained her reflections on her final journey. The traveler had returned to her hometown, back to the side of her family. The mission completed, the AZX returned to the Ark. As they left, the passing scenery seemed to shimmer with the ghosts of Nora and Lucian.

The AZX was finally greeted by a peaceful surface scattered with pink petals. May the traveler who returned home after her final journey find eternal rest.
