Since the 27th, Ubisoft's tactical FPS 'Rainbow Six Siege' has been facing an unprecedented server hacking crisis, sparking significant controversy.

This incident is believed to be a server-level breach, triggering a cascade of issues starting with in-game currency. The situation grew so severe globally that Ubisoft had to emergency-close the 'Marketplace'—the exchange between players and the game—in the early hours of the 28th.

The discovered issues are both serious and diverse. First, players' currency totals were displayed as abnormally high. This was not merely a visual bug; the actual in-game currency was displayed in the billions, and players could purchase cosmetic items without the balance decreasing. Competitive Coins were also infinite, allowing for the purchase of Competitive Packs, Season Packs, and Operators.

Furthermore, some players were seen obtaining 'Frontline' legendary weapon skins, which are typically reserved for Ubisoft executives and developers. It appears hackers have unauthorizedly distributed developer-exclusive weapon skins, alongside various other infinite currency and skin-related exploits.

Additionally, hackers were observed manipulating the ban notification system. While the feature that displayed the IDs of banned players was removed in the past, hackers managed to spoof this function. By creating non-existent IDs and triggering ban messages, they broadcasted bizarre content to the player base.

Some of the messages were relatively mild, such as lyrics from Michael Jackson’s 'Billie Jean' or criticisms of Ubisoft. However, more serious content included racist remarks, abusive language, insults, and derogatory comments, which have caused significant distress among the community.

Ubisoft stated via its official X account that it is working to resolve the issue. They also clarified that accounts will not be banned for using the illicitly obtained currency, that all transaction history following the incident will be rolled back, and that the ban notification feature was supposed to have been deactivated in a previous update. As of 2:00 PM on the 28th, server maintenance is still ongoing.
