Granblue Fantasy Relink, which seemed to have ended its update cycle for good, is staging a grand comeback this July.

Cygames dropped the bomb during the Nintendo Partner Direct on the 5th, announcing a massive expansion titled 'Endless Ragnarok'. Picking up after the main game—where the Star-Child Lilith's machinations were thwarted and peace finally returned to the Zegagrande Skydom—the story takes a turn for the chaotic. Just as tranquility settled, the beast of the apocalypse, Ragnarion, appears, followed by the descent of Beelzebub and his wings of steel. With the gate to the abyss, 'The 極鈍空所', now flung wide open, the sky realm is once again plunged into the vortex of battle.

The most exciting bit? New faces. Beatrix and Eustace from the 'Society', the elite Primal-hunting unit, are joining the fray. Beatrix wields the sealed weapon Embrasque, while Eustace brings his lightning-infused sniping skills to the table. Better yet, the fan-favourite antagonists Gallanza and Maglielle are finally becoming playable, offering a bit more flavour to your party composition.

Combat is also getting a shake-up. You'll now be able to equip Summon Stones found throughout the story to call upon Primal Beasts, which you can then control directly for a limited time to lay waste to your foes. Plus, there's the new 'Ascend Chain' system: if you trigger a Chain Burst under specific conditions, Lyria steps in to summon a Primal Beast for a devastating coordinated assault.

On the content front, we’re looking at higher-level quests and fresh boss encounters. The single-player exclusive '極鈍空所' mode challenges you to push your characters to their limits in uncharted territory. They've also added Master Skills to take your character progression beyond the previous end-game caps, significantly buffing the 'grind' factor. And for the folks who’ve been shouting from the rooftops for it, cross-platform play is finally on the menu.

Granblue Fantasy Relink debuted in February 2024 as a solid action romp, lauded for its deep character progression and exhilarating boss fights. However, the announcement that updates were ending just half a year after launch left many fans feeling rather bitter.
