After the global triumph of 'Clair Obscur: Expedition 33' last year, the developers at Sandfall Interactive have been formally recognised for their cultural contributions by the French government.

Sandfall Interactive announced via their LinkedIn page on the 7th that they have been awarded the Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture. This honour is reserved for those who have made significant creative contributions to the arts and literature, or who have helped promote these fields globally. Notably, the entire team of roughly 30 members was included in the list. Considering only about 200 people receive this decoration annually, this group accounts for approximately 15% of the total recipients.

The team expressed their gratitude, stating, "This honour is a result of what we and our players have built together." They added a message of encouragement, "We hope our journey serves as an inspiration for all those who wish to walk the path of creation."

This is not the first time the French Ministry of Culture has bestowed such an honour upon the gaming industry. Pioneers like Michel Ancel of 'Rayman' fame, Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo, and Frédérick Raynal, creator of 'Alone in the Dark', were among the first to receive it in 2006, followed by Eiji Aonuma of the 'The Legend of Zelda' series in 2023. However, this marks the first time an entire studio staff has been decorated rather than an individual creator.

For the uninitiated, 'Clair Obscur: Expedition 33' is a turn-based RPG released last April, chronicling the journey of the Expedition 33 to break a curse that causes people of a certain age to vanish each year. It has received widespread acclaim for its narrative, combat, and soundtrack, even clinching Game of the Year awards at last year's Golden Joystick Awards and The Game Awards.
