Tau Ceti 4 is a mysterious planet that, despite its colorful appearance, hides a sinister aura. After the original Marathon expedition disappeared and a mysterious signal spread across the galaxy, numerous corporations and factions flocked here in search of profit. Users must explore biological research facilities and rugged terrain to uncover traces of the past while facing unpredictable threats.

There are four major regions on the planet, each with different difficulty levels and structures, and even the relatively low-barrier outskirts are dangerous enough for beginners to die countless times. In one of these, the wetlands, you can witness strange alien anomalies rising from the ground, and traces remain that hint at why this settlement collapsed.

Next, the United Earth Federation outpost is a zone characterized by a sophisticated vertical structure and numerous traps. Intense battles constantly take place in the internal spiral buildings, where you can acquire top-tier loot. In addition, it is possible to infer the presence of enemies nearby through a system where visual effects change depending on the weather and fallen corpses gradually decay over time.

The Runner controlled by the player is a mercenary who has abandoned their human body for a synthetic one. They are not immortal or a hero, but a mercenary equipped with a specialized personality matrix for mission execution, thrown into a scramble for a massive piece of the pie. At launch, 6 basic frames will be provided, allowing users to take on roles such as a frontline warrior or a stealthy assassin according to their playstyle.

Each frame possesses unique abilities. For example, the Rogue frame can use a grappling hook twice in a row, and the Breaker frame can set up a suppression barrier to block enemy attacks with its own shield. You can complete your own build by combining over 400 weapon modification parts, various implants, and core system upgrades.

Users can form a team of up to 3 players or choose to play solo. If you want to collect resources lightly without any capital or equipment, you can also choose the 'Look', a prototype frame with nothing to lose, to jump into the fray.

The 6 competing factions on the planet offer different contracts to the user. Traxus, with its massive capital, instructs the recovery of specific items, while the death-worshipping Arachne demands the assassination of other Runners. The destructive Mida faction gives missions to handle explosives or destroy enemy transport ships. Completing contracts to increase reputation grants permanent stat increases and top-tier equipment.

Users who have finished growing to a certain extent head to the massive spaceship 'Marathon' floating in the sky. The cryo-storage area, which boasts the highest difficulty, is a harsh environment densely populated by elite United Earth Federation security forces. The security forces show bizarre movements as if controlled by an unknown AI, and some powerful enemies use tentacles that absorb the user's consciousness to provide extreme pressure.

There are 7 locked vaults inside the Marathon ship, and the difficulty and value of rewards increase in proportion to how deep you go. Reaching the final vault allows you to face not only the most precious artifacts but also the truth about what terrible tragedy occurred to this expedition. Analyzing collectibles and audio logs obtained through the codex to reconstruct forgotten history is also an important goal.
