Kang began his journey at Nexon back in 2006, joining the MapleStory development team. After becoming the 7th director in 2015, he managed to pull the title out of a deep slump. Over his eight-year tenure, he was credited with leading a golden age for the game, boosting concurrent players from 300,000 to around 500,000.

His efforts were recognized in 2023 when he handed the director reins to Kim Chang-seop and took on the newly created role of general head of the MapleStory division. In this role, he was tasked with overseeing the entire IP, including PC, mobile, and MapleStory Worlds. However, following the 'MapleStory Grow' stat application error this February, he was relieved of his post due to management accountability. Currently, the duties of the MapleStory division head are being managed by Nexon Korea joint CEO Kang Dae-hyun.

Just a month after being relieved of his position, it was confirmed that Kang had officially resigned on March 24. A Nexon representative confirmed the departure, stating, "The manager in charge has taken full responsibility and resigned, while other related personnel have been dealt with according to internal disciplinary regulations." There is currently no word on Kang's future plans.

Meanwhile, Nexon noted, "We take this matter very seriously. Putting 'user trust' at the forefront of our decision-making, we are fundamentally reforming our work systems and organizational culture to ensure this never happens again." They added, "To demonstrate the sincerity of our core leadership in restoring user trust, we have cut the 2025 incentive package for the CEO of Nexon Japan by 50%."
