Look, we all thought she was toast, but Lilith—the big bad from the main campaign—is making a comeback in Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred, which is set to drop on the 28th.

Blizzard dropped a fresh trailer on their official YouTube channel on the 17th. The footage kicks off with our protagonist in a bit of a pickle, plummeting through the abyss. Just as things look truly grim, Lilith swoops in to save the day. Between the rescue and that deliciously ominous line, 'I gave my children a world, and the strength to claim it, and this is what remains—you. Fight,' it is fairly safe to assume she is shifting roles from main villain to a rather reluctant ally in this expansion.

For those who need a recap, Lilith is the daughter of Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred, and served as the final boss of the base game. She is the co-creator of Sanctuary alongside the angel Inarius. After being resurrected by the traitor Elias, she tried to conquer both Heaven and Hell using Nephalem power, only to be thwarted by the player and—presumably—torn to pieces.

The community has been buzzing since the trailer hit. The consensus is a mix of surprise and genuine intrigue, with players remarking, 'I thought she was dead for good,' 'Her design always felt a bit more human than the other demons,' and 'I actually quite liked her as a villain, so it is nice to see her back.'

Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred is the second expansion to follow last year's release.
