Sony's subscription service, PlayStation Plus Essential, is set for a price increase.

Sony officially announced via their social media channels on the 19th that, 'as a measure due to ongoing market conditions,' prices for new PlayStation Plus customers will rise starting the 20th (local time). Existing subscribers will see their current rates maintained unless their subscription changes or expires.

In Korea, the PlayStation Plus Essential tier will also see price adjustments for the 1-month and 3-month (quarterly) subscriptions. The monthly price, previously ₩10,800, will increase to ₩12,000 (an 11.11% rise), and the quarterly price, previously ₩28,400, will go up to ₩31,000 (a 9.15% increase). Prices for the Extra and Premium tiers will remain unchanged.

Sony has consistently raised prices for its digital services and consoles over the past two years. Last April, all tiers (Essential, Extra, Premium) saw increases of at least 43%, and in May of this year, console prices for the PS5 and PS5 Pro were also hiked. With this latest adjustment, the 1-month price for the Essential plan has risen by approximately 60% compared to its historical price.
