Warhorse Studios, the developer behind the Kingdom Come series, is set to launch a new open-world RPG set in the world of Middle-earth.

On the 20th, Warhorse Studios made a surprise announcement on X regarding two new titles currently in development. The lineup includes an open-world Middle-earth RPG and a new adventure game based on the Kingdom Come universe. The studio stated, "It's time to show you what we've been working on," adding, "We look forward to sharing more when the time is right."

The most notable project is the new open-world RPG set in Middle-earth. Warhorse noted, "We have always strived to craft worlds brimming with stories that captivate players, and we cannot wait to bring Middle-earth to life in that same spirit."

The project is officially titled as a Middle-earth RPG rather than a Lord of the Rings game, leaving the door open to explore the entirety of Tolkien’s legendary lore. While some have speculated about a connection to the Middle-earth series by Monolith Productions, it is highly likely to be a standalone title, given Warhorse’s strength in depicting realistic medieval settings rather than high fantasy. Because of this, many believe it will better capture the understated charm of magic, artifacts, and equipment found in the original novels.

Meanwhile, a new entry in the studio's flagship Kingdom Come series is also in development. This project is described as a new Kingdom Come adventure rather than a direct sequel. It could take various forms, such as a standalone side story, a tale featuring a different protagonist in the same universe, or an exploration of a new historical era.
