Believe it or not, Resident Evil Code: Veronica is clawing its way back to us after a staggering 27 years.

Capcom dropped the news on the 6th during the Summer Game Fest 2026 showcase, unveiling Resident Evil Veronica (Resident Veronica). This is a full-blown remake of the 2000 original, slated for a 2027 release on PS5, Xbox, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2.

For the uninitiated, Code: Veronica follows Claire Redfield’s desperate search for her brother, Chris. Her journey takes a dark turn when she’s unceremoniously dumped on Rockfort Island by Umbrella. Given its direct narrative ties to Resident Evil 2, it has always held a special place in the hearts of the series' die-hard fans.

The trailer gives us a glimpse of the game reborn with modernised visuals. We see Claire visiting a mysterious house, only to be ambushed by a sinister figure. The scene then shifts to what appears to be the iconic Rockfort Island from the original; Claire wakes up, starts poking around, and—predictably—is immediately beset by zombies before the footage cuts to black.
