Look, let's be honest—the North American darling of the MMORPG scene, the 'Guild Wars' series, is officially getting a new lease on life with a fresh entry.

NC's subsidiary, ArenaNet, dropped the bombshell at Summer Game Fest on the 6th, confirming that 'Guild Wars 3' is in the works. In a first for the franchise, it is launching on both PC and PS5, with a combat system overhauled to play nicely with both mouse-and-keyboard setups and console controllers. The studio also confirmed that they intend to juggle the development of this new title alongside the ongoing live-service support for Guild Wars 2 and Guild Wars Reforged.

The game whisks us away to the region of Orr. You’ll be joining the Veilwarden, a guild sworn to protect the locals living beyond the city walls and the spirits of nature, embarking on a brand-new style of exploration. If you’re keen to get your hands on it, the closed beta is slated for Autumn 2027, with priority access handed out to official newsletter subscribers.

For those worried about the old guard, the studio plans to roll out details on the future of the franchise in stages. A video featuring studio head Colin and the respective directors of each title will go live on 6th June at 9:00 AM (local time), offering a deep dive into their roadmap. The Guild Wars series has been a long-standing stalwart in the MMORPG space since the debut of the original title back in 2005. Its successor, Guild Wars 2, arrived in 2012 and immediately garnered a cult following, particularly in North America. The game saw a massive resurgence in 2022 after hitting Steam, and last October's sixth expansion, 'Visions of Eternity', was well-received for its new elite specialisations and stunning vistas.

Guild Wars 3 is set for release on PC and PS5, with full support for Korean subtitles and voice-overs confirmed.
