Bandai Namco Entertainment pulled the curtain back on the debut trailer during the Summer Game Fest on the 6th. The game swaps out the usual PvP or grand strategy focus of typical Gundam titles for something a bit more visceral: a massive, space-faring battle against monstrous threats. It’s a bold shift that has certainly grabbed our attention.

In GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT, you step into the cockpit as Rex, pilot of the Gundam 'Helix', alongside your partner 'Bee' as you face an unknown enemy. The footage reveals foes ranging from smaller, spiky, obsidian-coloured creatures with glowing red lines to hulking mechanical monstrosities with piercing red optical sensors. We even saw a terrifying spider-legged behemoth that looks like a real piece of work.

The Helix itself is no slouch; it’s shown slicing through enemies with a massive greatsword, pulsing with energy, and deploying drones that rain down laser fire. There’s even a cheeky bit where it uses a laser tether to grapple and dash into foes. It’s got that snappy, heavy-hitting mechanical action that’ll immediately remind you of the 'Armored Core' series or 'Daemon X Machina'.
